Films for the global majority,

by the global majority

A collaborative screening space centring stories by people of colour

Who We Are

There’s no rule when it comes to genre—we’ll screen anything, as long as it’s made by people of colour. The goal is simple: to see ourselves on screen all the time, in a number of different ways so that we become the standard.

Slump was born from a need for more honest, varied representations—not just stories of excellence or hardship, but of everyday life. We want to see people of colour as heroes, villains, the love interest, the parent, the friend, the lead, the background character—just people, in all their complexity.

Too often, our work is boxed in as “foreign,” only recognised when it fits someone else’s idea of what our stories should be. We want space to just be—however that looks.

Whether a film is about race or not, if it reflects our lives, our voices, or just allows us to exist—we want to show it.

For Us, By Us

Slump is a space by and for people of the global majority—a home for those who are often made to feel like guests in mainstream film spaces.

Everyone is welcome, but we want to be clear: we centre the global majority. This means we prioritise the comfort, presence, and voices of people of colour in all that we do.

This is intentional. Many of us seek moments of rest, reflection, and community away from the pressures and gazes of whiteness—and Slump hopes to offer just that.

To support this, we offer discounted tickets for global majority folks and strive to keep our events safe and welcoming.

We also welcome film suggestions and input—this cinema is shaped by the people who attend. If there’s something you want to see, let us know.

Why We Slump

After each screening, there might be space to talk—but that’s entirely optional. What matters most to us is how a film makes you feel- how it reminds you of moments that meant something or feelings you’ve had before.

Sometimes, there might be a snack exchange—sharing food from our cultures as another way of connecting, remembering, and feeling at home.

Our aim is not to analyse camera techniques or over-intellectualise. There are spaces for that elsewhere. At Slump, we want to talk about love, memory, culture, migration, joy, pain, and the things that make a film linger in your brain.

Slump is about creating a space that feels safe, familiar, and easy to be in. But if it ever doesn’t—if you need anything, if something feels off, or even if a film stirs up overwhelming feelings—we’ll be there to support you, however we can.
